Types of Voting
In Person Voting
In-person voting is when a voter physically goes to a designated polling place—such as a community center or tribal office—to cast their ballot on Election Day or during an early voting period.
This method allows voters to:
-
Receive assistance if needed
-
Ask questions about the voting process
-
Ensure their ballot is submitted directly and securely
In-person voting remains one of the most common and trusted ways to participate in elections.
Early Voting
Early voting allows eligible voters to cast their ballots before Election Day, during a set period determined by the election officials or governing body.
This option helps:
-
Reduce long lines on Election Day
-
Give voters more flexibility in their schedule
-
Encourage higher participation from those who may have work, travel, or other commitments
Early voting is typically held at designated locations, such as tribal administration buildings or community centers.
Absentee Voting
Absentee voting is a method that allows eligible voters to cast their ballot without going to a polling place in person on Election Day. Instead, voters can submit their vote by mail or drop it off ahead of time, typically because they are:
-
Away from their voting location on Election Day (e.g., traveling, living elsewhere temporarily)
-
Unable to attend due to health, disability, or other personal reasons
In tribal elections, absentee voting can help ensure that all enrolled members still have a voice in tribal governance.
